Netflix reopens iconic New York theater to showcase its most prestigious films
Netflix is
here to prove that streaming is not necessarily the end of cinema either, as
it has been decided to reopen the cult New York venue - Paris Theater, which
will screen some of the most prestigious films on the platform.
The decision came after some major cinemas refused to screen Netflix movies because of a conflict of interest, and the company decided to open its own venue for special events and movie premieres. This is not the first time Netflix has shown a clear interest in winning cinemas, as original films are becoming an important part of the Netflix business, and the platform is increasingly competing with major film studios. In addition, there is competition in the form of other streaming platforms, so cinemas could also benefit in this race.MARRIAGE STORY will continue its run at the historic theater. Investing in films, and especially those coming from great directors such as Martin Scorsese and Noah Baumbach, is also a response to the wishes of those authors who would see their films in cinemas as well. Scorsese also wanted the movie premiere of "The Irishman," but Netflix failed to reach deals with major AMC and Regal distributors, so it's probably one of the reasons to look for new solutions that would allow movies to hit theaters before than reaching the service subscribers.
