Sony will cut 50% of employees in the mobile department
The
latest restructuring of Sony's smartphone department made it clear that the
Japanese company is planning further measures to stabilize finance. According
to Nikei, half of the current 4,000 employees will be released during the
reforms. All this will happen in the next 12 months, and the restructuring
process must end in March 2020. The main objective of the measures is to reduce
and optimize operating costs.
The mobile unit itself will focus on the markets in Europe and East Asia, while in other regions there will be a significant reduction in attendance. Employees in Japan will receive proposals to move to other units, while those in Europe and China will have the option of early retirement.
The restructuring comes in the backdrop of third-year predictions, in which Sony will report losses on its smartphone business. The market share of the Japanese giant fell to less than 1%, and total sales for the fiscal year 2018 amounted to about 6.5 million devices.
You hope that through the latest measures, the company will be able to be in plus again in 2020.
