New mobile application for Ford drivers

At the world mobile phone congress in Barcelona, Ford today announced that the popular Waze navigation and traffic application from April 2018 will be available globally for all Ford owners.

With more than 100 million active users, Waze is the largest community-based navigation application, helping drivers around the world outperform traffic. Collaboration with Ford was first announced at The International Consumer Electronics Show and it implies that Apple iPhone users will be able to project the Waze application from their smartphone on the big screen in the car. Ford is already offering the Sygic mobile navigation application via the AppLink platform and the SYNC 3 navigation system with FordPass Live Traffic.

"We know that people enjoy a large number of navigation applications that help them to reach their destination safely and efficiently, so we worked together with our partners to make it available to as many people as possible," said Don Butler, CEO of Connected Vehicle and Services. "With the SYNC 3 AppLink platform, drivers can safely and seamlessly access their favorite applications without looking away from the road or hands of the steering wheel," he added.

Ford's SYNC AppLink platform allows drivers to use connected applications from their smartphone to the integrated car's screen through advanced voice controls or with the steering wheel.

"Waze already uses 100 million of your friends on the road, and now Ford drivers will have the opportunity to safely access our application while on the move, through the screen in their car," said Jens Baron, Product Manager for In- Car Applications in Waze. "The Waze application is much more than just red lines on the map; it represents the vast community of drivers who are on the move and who together make the most out of traffic around the world, "he says.

Additionally, in Barcelona, Ford announced that their drivers will also be available with the mobile application from the audio podcast Acast. This enables offline downloads and intelligent podcast recommendations that best fit into travel, based on engine analysis and trip length. Acast was one of the winners of the AppLink Challenge "Make it Driveable" Ford in 2017 in Paris - an event that helps companies develop ideas that make the trip better.

In addition, Ford has confirmed that BPme (for finding petrol stations and car payments) will soon be available through AppLink, Radioplayer (for connecting to favorite radio stations and podcasts) and Cisco WebEx (for secure connection of business meetings on the go) .
